医学に発見の歓びを

 消化器は食物を消化吸収する臓器との認識が長い間続いてきました。しかし、今日では糖・脂質・蛋白質を合成・代謝し、生体の恒常性を保つことも重要な役割として認識されるようになってきました。実際、飲酒人口や肥満人口の増加に伴った糖尿病、高血圧、脂質異常といった生活習慣病罹患者数の増加は、肝臓を中心とする生体の恒常性維持機構に破綻をもたらし、NASHや肝細胞癌、膵癌、大腸癌を代表とする「新興消化器疾患」を急増させました。

 このような最近の消化器疾患の変容を背景に、消化器内科学教室(旧第一内科)では症例報告を最初の一歩として、肝臓・胆膵・消化管における代謝異常を肥満や糖尿病をkey wordに解析し、その制御によるNASHや発癌の抑制に向けた新規治療法の開発を目標としたtranslational research(展開研究)を展開します。
